LDL carries cholesterol and triglycerides around the circulation and is often referred to as ‘bad cholesterol’. This is not the whole story however, as LDL serves many important functions and only becomes a problem with potential to narrow arteries when damaged. High blood sugar levels which may result from consuming excess carbohydrates is one cause of damaged LDL by way of a process called glycation.
